Action Henk Review

Played on Windows
Also Available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Linux, and macOS.

I’ve said this a few times in videos, but I found Action Henk because the image caught my eye. I wanted to see what this game was about based off that, and that’s why I’m here reviewing. That’s probably not the best reason for me to choose a game, but it was something that was worth trying once. Let’s talk about what I found.

7 Days to Die Review

Played on Windows.
Also available on Linux, macOS, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

We come to the end of the Humble Monthly Bundle for November 2018. The last Early access game is 7 Days to Die, an Early access that has in Early Access since 2013. It’s a Zombie Survival, with an emphasis on Tower Defense and building rather than just scavenging. So the real question is, how is it?

Hitman Review

Played on Windows.
Also Available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Linux, macOS

Hitman, a series I’ve wanted to like since it launched, but still have not found the right game in the series. Well, it’s time to tackle another one. We come to Hitman or Hitman 2016 if you want to differentiate it from the other Hitman game from 2000. This is the IO Interactive’s attempt at episodic content. Let’s see how they did.

Hollow Knight Review

Played on Windows.
Also Available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, macOS, and Linux.

I previously talked about buying three games in January of 2018, as they were some of the most interesting games of 2017. Included in the pack was Sonic Mania, A Hat in Time, and Hollow Knight. Now I’ve reviewed all three games on Steam, and recently re-reviewed A Hat in Time as it was part of the Humble Monthly Bundle of August 2018. We actually have to go back to the three pack a second time, as I am beginning my reviews of Humble Monthly Bundle of November 2018. So how does Hollow Knight play?

Timespinner Review

Played on Windows
Also Available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, macOS, Linux, Switch, and Xbox One.
Disclosure at the end of the review (Kickstarter).

Four years ago, I saw a game named Timespinner that promised to deliver a Metroidvania style in the same vein as Mega man X and Castlevania. While they didn’t say that, I read this as a successor to Symphony of the Night. Being a young(er) naive man, I backed the game without much thought because “I like Metroidvanias”. It also was going to be out in November 2015, so it’ll be a quick turn around. Yeah… I don’t back Kickstarters anymore for a lot of reasons, but let’s see if Timespinner lived up to its promises.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age Review

Played on Windows
Also Available for PlayStation 4, (3DS in Japan only)
Coming to Nintendo Switch

At E3 2018, I remember going into the convention center excited to play something new. The first thing I saw in the South Hall, was Square Enix, I wanted to play something by them, and while Kingdom Hearts 3 was already building a big line, I saw Dragon Quest XI next to it and got excited. I’ve been a Dragon Quest fan for quite a while and while it’s never been the top franchise for me, I still enjoyed their games and their classic adherence to JRPG styles. So does Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of An Elusive Age live up to the grand series?

The Witness Review

Played on PlayStation 4 and Windows
Also Available on Xbox One, macOS, iOS, and Nvidia Shield.

Jonathan Blow was the lead designer of Braid, an excellent puzzle platformer of a very unique style. Rather than simply focusing on beating levels, there were puzzles interspersed with the levels and it created a rather novel and unique experience beyond just getting to the end of each level. A couple of years later Jonathan Blow returned with his new game The Witness. So what’s the verdict on it?

Hyper Light Drifter Review

Played on Windows
Also Available on  PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Microsoft Windows, Linux, and macOS

You know, I’m not sure what to make of Hyper Light Drifter. You can hear it in my First Look, I try to figure out what the game feels like. I call it Furi meets Zelda and then make the dreaded comparison to Dark Souls near the end. The fact is, I feel all of these have a value in comparison, but none are correct. So my task over the next couple of pages is to explain this strange game to you. I actually might prefer beating Dark Souls Solo instead of tackling this challenge.

Sid Meier’s Civilization VI Review

Played on Windows
Also available on macOS, linux, and iOS.
Coming to the Switch.

Ahh Sid, you are still putting your name at the front of the game, no wonder everyone calls this just Civ 6. Well, let’s talk about Sid Meier’s new opus. Civilization has a lot that it owes to board games, and in fact, each new number brings new mechanics for better or worse but a big piece is better AI, more to do, and a bigger world. They’re similar games, but they each have good and bad qualities so where does Civ 6 end up?
