Trying something a bit different today,  here’s a quick look at Snuggle Truck

2/5

Final Thoughts: While it has simple controls, there’s no real desire to continue playing onwards with Snuggle Truck.  You have a truck you drive over rough terrain. If you want to try it, it’s free on mobile.

Aragami Review

Played on Windows
Also Available on Linux, macOS, PlayStation 4.

I picked up Aragami because I needed a short game for a review between two review copies I had, just something to play. Well, that’s not true, I have many games I could have picked. I actually picked Aragami because of the “ninja” on the cover. I wasn’t sure what the game was about but I wanted to see why there was a “ninja” on the cover. Simple selection criteria, let’s see how I did.

Hellblade Senua’s Sacrifice Review

Played on Windows
Also Available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4
Disclosure (review copy) at the end.

I heard a lot about Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice and its treatment of mental illness. Now everyone talks about this with Hellblade and I feel mental illness is an important topic. I both advocate for destigmatizing it, and treatment of it, but I also really get nervous when pop culture talks about it because the fact is people treat the topic of Mental Illness as a story element and not a deeper topic. So when I approached Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice I was nervous.

Downwell Review

Played on Windows.
Also available on Android, PlayStation 4, iOS, PlayStation Vita

Downwell is simply a game about a boy going down the well. It opens with a boy standing on the edge of the well ready to jump in. So from there eventually the boy has to jump into the well. Why? How? Who knows! This is Downwell, so let’s go down that well.

Legend of Grimrock 2 Review

Played on Windows.
Also Available on macOS.

Legend of Grimrock is a little game from Almost Human Games that came out in 2012. It was a rather solid dungeon crawler that had the player dive down through 13 levels of a dungeon that included combat and puzzles the entire way. It was a solid return to what used to be a major part of the computer industry. The party based Dungeon CRPGs. 2 years later Almost Human Games returned with Legend of Grimrock 2. And boy, what a sequel.

Chessaria: The Tactical Adventure Review

Played on Windows
Also Available on macOS
Disclaim at the end (Review copy, requested by me)

On Steam I was browsing and saw someone had a game called Chessaria on a wishlist or had just purchased it. I took a look because I’m a fan of chess. Maybe not the biggest fan but I’ve played over 100 games on lichess.org (my profile page) and more elsewhere, so I know what I’m doing. Chessaria brought back memories of when I first got into computer chess and promised tactical puzzles with Chessaria: The Tactical Adventure. Alright, it had my attention.

Starbound Review

Played on Windows.
Currently Also Available on Linux and macOS.

Terraria was a smash hit selling ten million units and still growing, and not only showing that Re-Logic was a force to be reckoned with but it also showed that Minecraft did not have to be the only building game. Rather than going for a straight clone of Minecraft, Terraria moved to a 2D adventure game, that had a wealth of combat, and bosses as well as a more meaningful progression than Minecraft. Overall, Terraria was an impressive game.

So when Tiy, the sprite artists, left Terraria and worked on a new game eventually called Starbound I took notice as did many others. But the focus of Starbound seemed to be developing more quests and story than Terraria ever had. In addition, Starbound was moved from a single planet to a sci-fi outer space adventure that allowed players to travel to different worlds. It definitely peaked my interest.

Overcooked Review

Played on Windows.
Also Available on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One.

I feel like there is an unknown genre of games. There is a lot of variety in the genre but they all have a central theme they share. If you’ve seen the name of this review then you might guess that I’m talking about Cooking games. For me, the big games I’ve played in this genre is Cooking Mama, Cook Serve Delicious, and Overcooked. I’ve reviewed Cook Serve Delicious, and today I’m going to look at Overcooked.

Ruiner Review

Played on Windows.
Also Available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Linux.

Ruiner came to my attention during the Devolver Digital Press Conference in 2017. It’s one of my favorite press conferences of all time and is worth a watch as it’s brilliant comedy. During the conference, two games were shown with Ruiner being one of them. It wasn’t a serious press conference so that game can’t be real, right?
