Portal Knights Review

Played on Windows.
Also Available on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Android, and iOS.

It’s very hard to look at Portal Knights and not see Minecraft. Minecraft has done quite a bit to put its mark on gaming in the past nine years, and almost any game that has blocky graphics draws the comparison. Portal Knights has that same style of blocks, and so I feel it’s only expected to be compared to Minecraft and how it improves or changes on the formula. That’s where we begin looking at the third and final Humble Bundle Monthly title for July 2018.

Blackwake Review

Played on Windows.
Also Available on macOS

Hmm, Blackwake. So we’re talking about an Early Access Multiplayer game about being pirates? Interesting. Well, it’s unlike most Early Access games in that there’s no food and water foraging in the game, but we’ll have to see how it is outside of that. While others are talking about Skull And Bones, and Seas of Thieves, I’m looking at the second of the Humble Monthly July 2018 early unlock.

Hearts of Iron IV Review

Played on Windows.
Also available on macOS and Linux.

So a new month has started, and as such, I look to the Humble Monthly Bundle for a few games to review. This month there are three early unlocks, Heart of Iron IV, Blackwake, and Portal Knights. That’s a lot of games to look at and they’re quite diverse. We start with Hearts of Iron IV, mainly because it was listed in that order.

I Am Bread Review

Played on Windows.
Also Available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, macOS, iOS and Android.

“Let’s play something completely different.” Oh, those words. I say them entirely too often, but it’s also one of the reasons I think I have an interesting list of reviews. I don’t know why, but I try to avoid only playing AAA titles, and looking at my list I’ve done a fantastic job. But I like to switch between an “AAA” title and an indie title. Well, I don’t think they get much more indie than I Am Bread.

Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham Review

Played on Windows.
Also available on Xbox 360, Xbox One, Playstation 3, PlayStation 4, macOS, iPhone, Android, 3DS, Vita, and Wii U.

Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham is the fourteenth or fifteenth Traveller’s Tale Lego game, depending on how you want to count The Lego Movie Videogame. I’ve actually played every single Lego game up to this point, with the exception of Lego Star Wars 3. Something about these games speaks to me. Whether it be the gamification of Legos, or the Legoification of movies, or just the simplistic gameplay to see what might happen next, I’m there. So let’s see if Lego can keep this train running after all these titles.

Last Day of June Review

Played on Windows.
Also Available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4.

I don’t know how I keep finding my way into “walking simulators”. I suppose it’s because I have a desire to see extremely compelling stories, and walking simulators have to contain a better than average stories as that’s what keeps drawing people in. In this Last Day of June succeeds at an unprecedented level.

Grow Up Review

Played on Windows.
Also Available on Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

Grow Up is a sequel to one of the surprise hits I’ve played, which was called Grow Home. I played Grow Home on the PS3 and have been wanting to play Grow Up for a couple of years. I picked it up at some point last year, and for some reason let it linger in my virtual pile of unplayed games. Well, I’ve fixed that, and finally am ready to review it.

Cook Serve Delicious 2 Review

Played on Windows.
Also available on PlayStation 4, Android, iOS, macOS.

I wrote a review of Cook, Serve, Delicious! about two months ago. I found the game to be very fun, but it had one massive flaw. I thought that the sequel that I had played for an hour was better than that original game was in every way… well, maybe I oversold it. I now have put in 9 hours into the sequel and, well, let’s see if it really is better.

Alien: Isolation Review

Played on Windows
Also available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, macOS, Linux.

I have no idea why I played this. I’m not a huge Aliens fan, in fact, the only movies I’ve seen are Aliens 3 and Alien Resurrection. I just loathe horror in all its forms. So clearly I’m not the target audience for Alien: Isolation, yet I own it, I wanted to see how it accomplishes its scares, and so I gave it a shot.
