E3 2018: Day One

So on Tuesday, I mentioned I was going to E3, and I posted a number of tweets about the games I saw, but I figured 280 characters weren’t enough to talk about some games, and I would collect some opinions in a post. When everyone was lining up, I looked around and noticed a face […]

Last Day of June Review

Played on Windows.
Also Available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4.

I don’t know how I keep finding my way into “walking simulators”. I suppose it’s because I have a desire to see extremely compelling stories, and walking simulators have to contain a better than average stories as that’s what keeps drawing people in. In this Last Day of June succeeds at an unprecedented level.

Grow Up Review

Played on Windows.
Also Available on Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

Grow Up is a sequel to one of the surprise hits I’ve played, which was called Grow Home. I played Grow Home on the PS3 and have been wanting to play Grow Up for a couple of years. I picked it up at some point last year, and for some reason let it linger in my virtual pile of unplayed games. Well, I’ve fixed that, and finally am ready to review it.

Cook Serve Delicious 2 Review

Played on Windows.
Also available on PlayStation 4, Android, iOS, macOS.

I wrote a review of Cook, Serve, Delicious! about two months ago. I found the game to be very fun, but it had one massive flaw. I thought that the sequel that I had played for an hour was better than that original game was in every way… well, maybe I oversold it. I now have put in 9 hours into the sequel and, well, let’s see if it really is better.

Alien: Isolation Review

Played on Windows
Also available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, macOS, Linux.

I have no idea why I played this. I’m not a huge Aliens fan, in fact, the only movies I’ve seen are Aliens 3 and Alien Resurrection. I just loathe horror in all its forms. So clearly I’m not the target audience for Alien: Isolation, yet I own it, I wanted to see how it accomplishes its scares, and so I gave it a shot.

Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon Review

Played on Windows and Xbox 360
Also available on PlayStation 3

In 2009 I picked up a game called Earth Defense Force 2017, it was one of the biggest surprises for me on the Xbox 360. The game perfectly recreated a B-movie style and atmosphere that I enjoyed. So when a sequel, Earth Defense Force Insect Armageddon (EDF: IA), came out I was interested and when I found out it was available for PC I was even more interested.

KickBeat Steam Edition Review

Played on Windows and PlayStation 3
Also Available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and Wii U

Zen Studios has been a studio I’ve kept my eye on for quite some time. They made Zen Pinball FX2 which quickly became my favorite Pinball game, mixing arcade-style pinball with a more playable and interactive table. I was hooked instantly. So when I heard they had made a KickBeat which appeared to be kung fu inspired rhythm game, I knew I had to take a look as I used to play a lot of DDR and Stepmania.

Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon Review

Played on Windows.
Available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch.
Disclosure (Kickstarter) at the end.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night came to the public’s attention in May 2015 with Koji Igarashi (also known as IGA) announcing a new Kickstarter. The programmer and director of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (worth checking out) asked for half a million dollars to make another Castlevania-like game. Fans went crazy and easily topped that, giving over 5 million dollars to the team to develop Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.

At 4.5 million, a promise of a retro style prequel game was made. Now on May 24th, 2018, we have received the prequel game name Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon, with the actual Bloodstained Ritual of the Night coming hopefully this year. However, the prequel Bloodstained Curse of the Moon is being offered for 10 bucks, and that means it deserves its own review. I’m here to give that.
