Tales of Zestiria Review

Played on Windows
Also available on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4

The “Tales of” series and I have a long history, I believe my first Tales of series was the Tales of Phantasia for the SNES using fan translation when I was in college during the PS2 era of gaming. It was one of the best RPG I played because it used an action gameplay in the middle of a normal RPG story.

A couple of years later, Tales of Symphonia came out for the GameCube, and it was brilliant. A fantastic story, great characters, and that same brilliant battle system combined to make an extraordinary game. It was long, it was a little hard, but it was excellent.

Now I’ve grown up even more, I may still play games around the same amount, but the fact is I have less time and more money so I don’t need the longest games, I just want quality entertainment. But when I saw I could get a Tales game for Steam, I jumped at the chance. Well I jumped on it and waited a while. I wanted to see if the series was as good as I remembered, but the Tales games have always been long and I heard this game would take me 50 hours. That’s quite a bit of time. Over a year later I’ve now played Tales of Zestiria. So that means it’s time to review it as well.

Plague Inc. Evolved Review

Played on Windows.
Also available on Mac OS, Linux, Xbox One, Playstation 4.

Plague Inc. Evolved is a game where you take over a potentially deadly disease to extinguish humanity. The game is based on a series of games called Pandemic which became popular in a flash game from 2008. However Plague Inc. Evolved took the novel idea from there and developed a rather interesting and deeper game.

LiEat is a series of games made by someone who goes by the name Miwashiba. To start with, this is actually a free game available online.  There are a number of places online where you are able to legally download it.  Purchasing the game on Steam is to support the creator, but not required.  If you prefer to just play a game with no knowledge about it, you can go ahead with out reading further.  If you want to know if it’s worth your time, that’s what I’m here to explain.

Batman: The Telltale Series Review

Played on Windows
Available on Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Android, iOS

Batman: The Telltale Series is another storybook from Telltale. I really want to say something different but the fact is that Telltale has consistently made choices that make it hard to talk about their series in terms of “gameplay” and I find that these game are judged based on the story

Rise of the Triad Review

Played on Windows

When I was young, I got Rise of the Triad, and I remember thinking, “This was something special.” There was something about the original game that was exceptional. Playing Rise of the Triad’s remake reminds me of some of that. Sadly, much of the brilliance of the original are relics from another time and place. They are features that were attempted for the first time and were somewhat successful. Yet time has moved on and games have as well.

Enslaved: Odyssey to the West Review

Played on Windows
Also available for: Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii

Enslaved: Odyssey to the West is what I would call the gaming communities’ one of the biggest failures. It’s a common refrain that “everything is a sequel, a remake, or a reboot” and that new IPs aren’t made anymore. I disagree with that sentiment in that there’s a good amount of new IPs all the time, successful ones get turned into a franchise like Titanfall, and a lot of them fail like Mighty No. 9, or No Man’s Sky.

Then there’s a game like Enslaved: Odyssey to the West. It’s novel, it’s unique, it actually has a high profile actor attached to it and it flopped miserably. This is exactly what I’ve heard people wanting when new sequels are announced and this is also why major companies are afraid to take a chance on new IP. It’s a reasonably good game that didn’t capture the public’s attention.Read More »
