Sid Meier’s Civilization VI Review

Played on Windows
Also available on macOS, linux, and iOS.
Coming to the Switch.

Ahh Sid, you are still putting your name at the front of the game, no wonder everyone calls this just Civ 6. Well, let’s talk about Sid Meier’s new opus. Civilization has a lot that it owes to board games, and in fact, each new number brings new mechanics for better or worse but a big piece is better AI, more to do, and a bigger world. They’re similar games, but they each have good and bad qualities so where does Civ 6 end up?

Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc Review

Played on Windows.
Also Available on Linux, macOS, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita (JP only: Android, iOS, and PSP(?) )

It’s time to discuss one of the hardest games to talk about. Danganronpa. No, it’s not a bad game, nor is it really hard to describe. It’s just near unpronounceable for me. I finally found a good pronunciation guide (“Dang it Ron Paul”) and that’s what I’m going with. Well, it’s time for me to face the pain and try to discuss it. I had very little exposure to this game before playing and that’s a good thing for it, though I know it’s rather popular. Does it live up to the hype?

Obduction Review

Played on Windows
Also Available on macOS and PlayStation 4.

25 years ago, in 1993, Cyan released Myst and it was unique, impressive, and something truly different for a video game. It’s an experience where the player could explore a number of unique worlds and had to solve puzzles to advance a story and open up new locations It was so successful it spawned a number of sequels turning into a very powerful franchise. 25 years later, I’m playing Obduction, also from Cyan, which came out a couple of years ago. So how is it?

Yakuza 0 Review

Played on Windows
Also available on PlayStation 4, (Playstation 3 in Japan Only)

I’ve been very excited to write this review for quite a while. The Yakuza series has been on my radar since I played Yakuza 4 in 2016. I liked the experience but I had some reservations about that game. It was a solid experience, but there were four characters which was a bit much, however, the game itself shined and the gameplay was enjoyable. I just wanted to see another game in that same style. However, time, money, and switching to PC/Steam made it hard to return to the series. So I waited and hoped for another opportunity. Earlier this year Sega finally gave me what I was asking for. Yakuza finally came to PC and Steam with Yakuza 0. I bought it on launch and after having put in 70 hours into the game I’m here to tell you what I thought of it.

Exapunks review

Played on Windows
Early Access

Zachtronics is my spirit animal of the video game industry. There’s something about Zach Barth’s games that make me really excited to play them. I’ve owned every game he’s put out on Steam. I still remember when EXAPUNKS was announced, I saw just the letters “Zach” based and got excited, so was that excitement warranted?

Humble Monthly Bundle Early Unlock Wrap Up for September 2018

Hello again,

Welcome to my wrap up of the Humble Monthly Bundle for September 2018.

This month there were three games again in the Early Unlock system. However there was a little twist, in that a previous month’s game (October 2017) I’ve reviewed the three games, Staxel, Sniper Elite 4, and Tales of Berseria as you can see below and will discuss Rise of the Tomb Raider as well. You can read the reviews through these links, as well as see the videos below. If you prefer videos consider subscribing to the Youtube channel, as that’s the fastest way to learn about next month’s Humble Monthly Bundle Reviews as well as anything else I’m playing.

Tales of Berseria Review

Played on Windows.
Also Available on PlayStation 4 (PlayStation 3 JP only)

So we finally end the Humble Monthly Bundle for September 2018, with one of the longest games I’ve ever played. This is Tales of Berseria.

So I published a review of Tales of Zesteria on May 5th, 2018 and I was a bit savage. It was a good game and I recommended it, but it had so many flaws that I pointed most of them out. Tales of Berseria is a follow up to it and was published the following year, only about 18 months after Zesteria, and for such a large game that should be a big warning sign. Yet, that’s what Bandai Namco did, so it’ up to me to find out if it paid off?

Mega Man X Legacy Collection Review

Played on Microsoft Windows
Also Available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

“The Original Mega Man series is one of the best series of games ever” Hold on, I’m going to have to pull a Kanye here. “Mega Man X is one of the best Mega Man games of all time.” Thank you.

The fact is when the original Mega Man Legacy Collection came out, I picked it up and played it, and it was a solid game. However, even with save states and more, the entire time I played it, I kept thinking “I really miss Mega Man X”. So Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 came out and admittedly I haven’t played it yet, but I still wanted the Mega Man X versions. Finally, Capcom figured it out and released Mega Man X Legacy Collection. This is a collection I’ve been dying to play, even playing it as one of the first games I tried at E3 this year. So was I wearing nostalgia goggles or is Mega Man X Legacy Collection live up to the hype?
